First deep tissue massage a couple months ago was pretty solid, not the best, but not bad and I’d left feeling fairly pleased. Went again today for another deep tissue because my shoulder has been bugging me, and this time I had a different person and very different experience. From the start things seemed off. The woman didn’t speak any English which was fine since she used her phone to help translate, and I figured she would know basic massage terms like harder or softer. But then asked me to pay up front which was weird since this isn’t how it went last time or at any other place I’ve ever been to. But I paid since I was satisfied with my massage the first time I’d gone. When it came to the massage this woman seemed like she didn’t know what she was doing or there was a miscommunication because she did not give me a deep tissue massage. I asked for more pressure but she barely did. I asked multiple times and tried to mime it out so she could understand. Near the very end she got a little better and focused on the spot I kept pointing to so that was good, but it really felt like she didn’t know what she was doing at all. Even if I had asked for a Swedish massage what she did would’ve been very subpar. I almost got up and ended the massage a few times because I was getting more stressed out than relaxed. Now I get why they asked me to pay up front. Not going back.
