Unfortunately, my experience at Hudson Family Spa was extremely unfavorable. My biggest complaints stem from how difficult it was to communicate with the staff. I have been an ENL —English as a New Language teacher for over 27 years in Long Island City, Queens —one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the world — and consider myself very experienced and skilled at communicating with people —both children and adults —who are learning English, but my experience at Hudson Family Spa was frustrating at best. Even though we were using Google Translate, which usually works extremely well, we ended up getting the wrong treatments and paying more than we expected. Apparently, the the brochures that are displayed outside the spa were printed 5 years ago and prices have gone up since then. The new prices are displayed inside. They did not offer to honor the price printed on the old brochures and my friend and I ended up paying over $40 more for the services we received, so it was a considerable difference in price. It wasn’t just a dollar or two more, so again because of our difficulty communicating we ended up getting the wrong treatments and paying more than we expected. To top it all off, when I paid, the staff member who rung me up asked me how much tip I wanted to add. I told her the amount, assuming that she was going to add it to the bill as a tip. However, what she did was ring up our services and the tip amount together so we ended up being taxed on the tip amount! After going back-and-forth with her for five minutes, trying to explain that I shouldn’t be taxed on the tip, I became very frustrated and gave up. In the end, the tip issue was semi resolved when she called their boss, who speaks perfect English, and was able to express myself clearly. Ultimately, he asked her to refund me the tax amount. Believe it or not, this is the first time I’ve ever left a negative review online but I felt the need to because I ended up leaving the spa a lot more stressed than when I arrived, which is not what should happen when you go to a spa. The only reason I’m raring 2 stars and not 1 is that my friend thought her masseuse did a good job. Unfortunately I will not be going there again and I do not recommend it to others until they resolve the issues I named above.

The place is clean. The only problem is very expensive. She charged me 100 just for 20 minutes. Of massage. The other day I went to the mall. I pay 30 minutes for 35. They don't understand English. I lost a lot of time. Explaining to them.

Please read: this place is not a real message spa. I am sad to post a bad review but while I liad there I could not believe what they were doing. To start off if you have gone to a trained professional you can tell the quality of message is very different, I would like to see their massage license. I requested a shoulder and neck message and got constant rubbing on my mid back despite me requesting multiple times for her to do my neck and shoulders. She did squeeze my neck and shoulders a couple of times but then she started to scratch my head which I have never had done before in a massage. Then when I still had 15 minutes left she told me to turn around and lay there. I will not go into the hygiene because it is not good. The other sad part is if you get a message of 30 minutes which is $50 you must pay a 10 dollar tip (which they cannot make you pay by law, I payed it out of courtesy) and if you get a 1 hr massage which is $60 you must pay a 15 dollar tip. I don’t mind leaving the tip just be honest with the price because you can get an actually massage for the same price. I don’t know why there is 5 star reviews, these people probably have not gone to a real spa before, I feel like I wasted my money. Take your time and find a real massage spa, you will thank yourself later.
